The identities of the victims, believed to be a family, are yet to be disclosed.
According to a witness, the car was carrying six on board and was about to make a U-turn when tragedy struck around 5.30pm.
“Just as it turned, an oncoming trailer from the opposite side crashed into the car, dragging it for some 10m further. The car then plunged into a drain by the roadside.
“The impact from the collision crushed the front part of the car beyond recognition,” the witness said.
Teams from Bintulu Fire and Rescue Department, police and hospital arrived at the scene about 15 minutes later.
It took rescuers half an hour to extricate the victims out of the wreckage.
It was reported that the three other passengers of the car were seriously injured.
The bodies had been taken to Bintulu Hospital for post-mortem.
