Seventeen bus passengers escape death in accident

SUNGAI BAKAP: Seventeen passengers escaped death after the express bus they were travelling in skidded and hit the divider to avoid a MPV vehicle which lost control in front of the bus at the North-South Expressway early this morning.

An initial report stated the express bus was on its way from Alor Setar to Shah Alam when the incident happened.

According to South Seberang police chief Supt Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad both vehicles hit the divider with the bus landing on its side and its wreckage strewn all over the road.

"The incident happened during a downpour at 3am and the road is in wet condition," he said when contacted by theSun.

The passengers of the bus comprised 13 men and 4 women with three of them injured. Two sought treatment at Hospital Sungai Bakap while the driver at Hospital Seberang Jaya.

Meanwhile the driver of the MPV who is in his 20s sustained injuries to his shoulder and was treated at the Hospital Sungai Bakap.
